Niger Electricity Co. (NIGELEC) is seeking qualified consultants to carry out feasibility studies, as well as environmental and social impact assessments, for a new solar power facility in Tahoua, western Niger. This upcoming project is expected to have a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) and will incorporate energy storage solutions to enhance its efficiency.
The tender outlines that the required studies should be completed within a 15-month timeframe, and funding for the project has been secured from the African Development Bank (AfDB). Interested consultants are encouraged to submit their expressions of interest by December 2, 2024.
As of the end of 2023, Niger has made significant strides in solar energy deployment, reaching a total of 92 MW, up from 62 MW the previous year. This increase is largely due to the commissioning of a 30 MW solar plant in July 2023, which underscores the country's dedication to expanding its renewable energy capabilities.
