Nokian Tyres Oyj, the Finnish tire manufacturer, has secured a clean energy supply for its upcoming factory in Oradea, Romania, through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enery, a Vienna-based renewable energy provider.
The PPA will support the construction of a new 50-MW solar farm in southern Romania, guaranteeing 80 GWh of clean energy annually starting in 2025.
The energy supplied under this agreement will power Nokian Tyres’ new passenger car tire facility, set to open in 2024.
The plant will operate entirely without fossil fuels, aligning with the company's broader sustainability goals and advancing decarbonization within the tire manufacturing sector.
This deal marks Enery's sixth PPA in Romania and twelfth in Central and Eastern Europe. With nearly 700 GWh of clean electricity generated from 490 MW of capacity, Enery is a key player in the region's renewable energy landscape.
The company’s project pipeline exceeds 8 GW across 11 countries, including a recent 51.4-MWp solar farm with integrated battery energy storage in northwest Romania.
