Morrow Batteries has launched Europe's first lithium iron phosphate (LFP) gigafactory in Arendal, Norway, with a production capacity of 1 GWh annually. The factory, inaugurated on August 16 by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, represents a significant milestone for the European battery energy storage market.
Construction began nearly two years ago, following the company's initial plans for the facility four years prior. The factory has entered its test production phase, with Morrow Batteries working closely with customers to optimize production equipment and ensure high-quality serial production in the coming months. The company anticipates starting commercial production by the end of the year.
Since November 2023, Morrow Batteries has produced and distributed thousands of LFP sample cells to potential customers for testing and validation. The company asserts that it can now offer a commercially viable and thoroughly tested LFP product.
