Morrow Batteries is expanding its production capabilities by establishing a gigafactory with an annual capacity to manufacture 43 GWh of battery cells. This ambitious project will be developed in phases, beginning with the 1 GWh Morrow Cell Factory, which is located in Arendal, Norway and has officially started operation. The full-scale gigafactory will include three additional giga modules, each with a 14 GWh capacity, named Eyde 1, Eyde 2, and Eyde 3.
On August 16, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store inaugurated the new facility, which comes just under two years after construction began and four years after the initial plans were unveiled. The plant is expected to play a crucial role in advancing battery technology and meeting the growing demand for energy storage solutions in Europe.
Morrow Batteries has already initiated test production, collaborating closely with customers to fine-tune production equipment in preparation for mass production. The company anticipates that full-scale commercial production will commence by the end of the year.
Since November 2023, Morrow Batteries has produced and shipped thousands of LFP sample cells to potential customers as part of its Customer Qualification Line (CQL) for testing and validation. “The company can now deliver a competitive, commercially viable, and thoroughly tested LFP product,” Morrow Batteries stated, highlighting its readiness to meet market needs with high-quality battery cells.
