NTPC, Gujarat Gas ink agreement for green hydrogen blending in PNG network

It will be used for cooking applications in NTPCS Kawas Township.

NTPC Limited has signed an agreement with Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL) to blend green hydrogen in the piped natural gas (PNG) network of GGL at NTPC Kawas.

In a statement, India’ Ministry of Power said green hydrogen will be produced using electricity from the existing one-megawatt floating solar project at NTPC Kawas, which will then be blended with PNG in a predetermined proportion and will be used for cooking applications in NTPC Kawas Township.

The hydrogen blending percentage in the PNG will be around 5% and will be further increased after completion.

“This hydrogen blending project at NTPC Kawas is a pioneering effort and the first of its kind in the country. This is a step toward the decarbonisation of the cooking sector and self-sufficiency for the energy requirements of the nation,” the ministry said.
