Over 85 GW of renewables in Brazil request deadline extension

Brazilian power sector regulator Aneel has received applications for around 85.4 GW to be included in the provisional measure (MP) 1212/2024, which extends benefits to renewable generation sources.
The combined capacity comes from 1,983 energy plants, either with licences in place or in the process of obtaining them from the regulatory agency, Aneel said on Monday.
The measure gives renewable energy projects a further 36 months to start commercial operation of all their generating units. Thus, they qualify for discounts on the tariffs for the use of the transmission and distribution systems (TUST/TUSD).
The majority of the registered applications (65.7 GW) are associated with solar plants. More details on the subject are available in the table below.
