Germany’s Juwi Group will this summer switch on a 10-MW solar park in Germany’s Lower Saxony state to supply with green power a local production site of plastic packaging manufacturer SPIES Packaging.
The Gesmold park has been under construction since the middle of March, project developer Juwi said on Wednesday.
Being installed in Osnabruck district, the photovoltaic (PV) farm will help SPIES cover at least 20% of the electricity consumption of its factory there. The generation of its 18,284 modules will be transmitted via a direct underground power line with a length of almost 2.3 km. The plant is expected to generate first electricity in August and reach commercial operations in the late summer of 2024.
Once fully energised, Gesmold will produce around 10 million kWh of electricity annually. SPIES will use 70%-80% of that output for its own consumption and will feed the rest into the grid.
As the plant is being installed on arable land, the site around the PV arrays will be transformed into grassland, Juwi noted.
