Philippines Begins Construction of 41 MWp Solar and 53 MWh Battery Storage Project

PAMPANGA, Philippines — Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation and Pampanga I Electric Cooperative have broken ground on an integrated 41 MWp solar PV and 53 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Magalang, Pampanga.
The project will be embedded within the local distribution network operated by Pampanga I Electric Cooperative, allowing electricity generated by the solar plant to be supplied directly to local consumers rather than transmitted through the national high-voltage grid.
The integrated BESS will store renewable electricity for later use, while the localised generation model is expected to reduce transmission losses, support local grid requirements and improve renewable energy utilisation.
The project is also expected to help Pampanga I Electric Cooperative meet the Philippines’ Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS).
The development builds on a commercial partnership established between Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation and Pampanga I Electric Cooperative in 2024 to develop energy supply solutions. Construction is now underway, with commercial operation targeted for the second half of 2027.
Once operational, the facility will provide renewable electricity and battery storage capacity for local consumption while supporting growing electricity demand in the region.
The partners also see the integrated solar-plus-storage model as a potential framework for other electric cooperatives and distribution utilities looking to develop decentralised renewable energy infrastructure.
