Philippines | DOE Accelerates Power Plant Restarts and 253 MW Battery Deployment
The Department of Energy (DOE) is accelerating efforts to stabilize the Visayas power grid by bringing offline power plants back online and deploying 253 MW of battery storage across Cebu, Panay, Leyte and Negros.

Several plants are scheduled to return to service in September and October, while the battery systems are expected to provide fast backup during sudden outages and store excess daytime solar generation for nighttime use.
According to DOE simulations, the 253 MW battery capacity could eliminate more than half of projected grid alerts, potentially avoiding red alerts.
