Plenitude, the renewable energy arm of Italian oil giant Eni, has begun constructing a 220 MW solar power plant in Villarino de los Aires, Salamanca, Spain.
In its announcement, Plenitude noted that this will be among the largest solar facilities in Castilla y León, with an estimated yearly output surpassing 400 GWh. The solar farm, spanning 286 hectares, will be connected to the Spanish national grid through a 3.2 km medium-voltage underground cable at the Villarino de los Aires connection point.
The plant will feature 365,300 bifacial solar panels and is set to be completed by 2025. The development is supported by Sterling & Wilson, one of the leading global firms in photovoltaic construction, alongside key local companies.
The project will include several environmental measures, such as preserving and relocating rural structures within the park, maintaining natural watercourses in the area, and installing a permeable wildlife fence. There will also be coordination with nearby farmers to ensure the project aligns with local agricultural land use.
Currently, Plenitude manages over 440 MW of installed solar and wind capacity in Spain, with plants in regions like Galicia, La Rioja, Catalonia, Castilla-La Mancha, and Murcia.
