The Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) has partnered with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to implement solar power systems across government facilities.
A memorandum of agreement was recently signed between PNOC and NEDA Region IV-A for the installation of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, which will convert sunlight directly into electricity.
"PNOC is committed to supporting the Department of Energy's energy transition agenda, with a focus on enhancing energy efficiency within government agencies," stated PNOC President and CEO Oliver Butalid.
The installation of rooftop solar PV systems is just one of the services offered by PNOC, which also includes demand aggregation for retail electricity and smart air conditioning technologies.
The initial phase of the project will see solar PV systems installed at NEDA Region IV-A facilities to reduce electricity costs.
NEDA Assistant Secretary Agnes Tolentino expressed hope that this partnership would lead to further collaborations, extending beyond NEDA to the entire Calabarzon region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon).
Named the RGB Project, this initiative aims to provide a comprehensive range of energy efficiency solutions for government buildings. It also supports the country's objective of increasing the share of renewable energy in the power generation mix to 35 percent by 2030, with a further goal of 50 percent by 2040.
