Carrefour has agreed to procure clean electricity from a 52-MWp solar farm to be built by French renewable energy company Qair in Italy.
“This contract will allow Carrefour Italy to count on around 75 GWh of renewable energy per year, the equivalent of powering 30 of its hypermarkets, in line with our Benefit Corporation status and the specific goal of reducing our environmental impact, said Carrefour Italia’s CFO Jean Francois Dohogne.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) with Qair is aligned with Carrefour’s plan to reduce emissions by 50% and source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
The contracted solar power will be sourced from a facility that will be constructed in the Latium region. The project is expected to be completed by 2026, Qair noted in a press statement published today.
