Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RRVUNL) has opened bidding for standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 2,000 MWh (500 MW for four hours), to be connected to India’s State Transmission Utility (STU) grid.
The storage systems will operate on a single charge-discharge cycle per day and will be deployed on-demand to help balance supply during peak and off-peak periods.
RRVUNL will enter into battery energy storage purchase agreements (BESPA) with selected developers, who will design, build, own, and operate the facilities under a build-own-operate (BOO) model.
The projects will also be eligible for viability gap funding (VGF) from India’s Power System Development Fund (PSDF), under guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power.
