RIC Energy, a Spanish renewable energy group, has achieved a significant milestone with the granting of the Integrated Environmental Authorization (IEA) for its H2-Valladolid green hydrogen project, located in Arroyo de la Encomienda, Valladolid.
This marks the company's first hydrogen plant authorization, highlighting its leadership in renewable energy and sustainability.
The H2-Valladolid project will feature a 10 MW green hydrogen production plant, powered by renewable energy from two nearby photovoltaic plants also developed by RIC Energy. The plant will be built in two phases, each with a capacity of 5 MW, and is expected to produce 1,500 tons of hydrogen annually. The project aims to support decarbonization in industries, transport, and the local gas network.
The IEA approval affirms RIC Energy’s adherence to stringent environmental and regulatory standards, ensuring minimal environmental impact throughout the project's lifecycle. It also underscores the company's commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.
Pablo García-Salmones, Director of Green Hydrogen at RIC Energy, stated, “This authorization is a crucial step toward realizing the H2-Valladolid project, which will contribute to CO2 emissions reduction and local economic growth.”
Once operational, the project will prevent the emission of 6,000 tons of CO2 annually. It will also create 75 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase, with an additional 15 jobs during operation.
RIC Energy’s efforts extend beyond H2-Valladolid, with ongoing projects in Castile and León, including seven photovoltaic plants totaling over 660 MWp, five green hydrogen projects with over 1 GW of electrolysis capacity, and eight biomethane initiatives.
