Romania's CIS Group to Develop 23-MW Solar Park Locally

Romanian engineering services provider and CIS Group, which is also active in the green energy sector, plans to build a 23-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park with batteries in the region of Transylvania, central Romania.

The project will require an investment of almost RON 100 million (USD 22.4m/ EUR 20.1m), the company said on Tuesday. Some of the expenses will be covered with funds by the country’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

To be located in the town of Copsa Mica, Sibiu County, the solar park is expected to start generating electricity early next year. It will be coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of 4 MW.

As part of its green energy ambitions, CIS Group intends to launch two additional projects by the end of this year. One of these will involve the construction of a 50-MW energy storage facility near the city of Targu Mures in Transylvania, which will help stabilise the grid and enhance the power supply during peak demand periods. The second project will create a PV plant with a 1-MW BESS unit near Reghin city in Mures county.
