Britain’s Octopus Energy has clinched a deal to deliver green power from a recently-acquired solar farm in Brandenburg to supply the steel production facilities of Germany’s Salzgitter AG (ETR:SZG).
The British firm said on Wednesday that its subsidiary Octopus Energy Generation will supply Salzgitter with 126,000 MWh of electricity annually under a 10-year contract. The power purchase agreement (PPA) covers the entire output of the 122-MWp Schiebsdorf photovoltaic (PV) park that is currently under construction in the municipality of Schiebsdorf. It will enter into force once the solar farm is commissioned later this year.
“As we work towards our strategic emissions reduction goal, this latest PPA adds another significant source of clean electricity to power our operations, create green hydrogen and ultimately produce greener steel for our customers,” said Ralph Schaper, Head of Salzgitter’s Energy Economy Department.
Octopus acquired the Schiebsdorf solar farm in January from German developer ib vogt GmbH.
