The Catalina project, spearheaded by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) in the province of Teruel, Spain, represents a major step forward in renewable energy integration. This comprehensive project encompasses multiple renewable energy sources and their associated infrastructure.
Project Components:
Wind Farms:
The project includes seven wind farms: Catalina Wind Farm I, II, IV, V, VII, VIII, and IX.
Combined installed power capacity of 897.60 MW.
Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Parks:
Six PV solar parks: Catalina Photovoltaic Park III, VI, X, XI, XII, and XIV.
Total installed power capacity of 729.56 MW.
Green Hydrogen Production:
Infrastructure to support green hydrogen production with a power capacity of 500 MW.
A 400 kV connection line for power demand at the SET Mudéjar 400 kV.
Public and Administrative Process:
Environmental Impact Statement:
The Department of Industry and Energy of the Subdelegation of the Government in Teruel has submitted the request for an Environmental Impact Statement and Prior Administrative Authorization to public information.
Grid Connection:
Wind and photovoltaic facilities in the project are exempt from obtaining access and connection permits to the grid due to their self-consumption regime without surpluses.
Key Participants:
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP):
CIP, through its subsidiary Copenhagen Infrastructure Service Company (CISC), is the main promoter of the project.
CIP recently closed two new funds, CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (ABF I) and CI Green Credit Fund I (GCF I), with a total of 2 billion euros.
Blue Power Partners:
The Danish consultancy firm representing CISC in the project.
Ingeteam:
The Spanish manufacturer supplying inverters for the photovoltaic plants.
Inverters model: Ingeteam Ingecon Sun 1400TL B540 with a capacity of 1,403 kVA.
Background:
CIP's Existing Operations:
CIP already operates one of the largest wind farms in Spain, located in Monegros, Aragon, with a capacity of 487 MW.
The Catalina project in Teruel signifies a substantial investment in renewable energy infrastructure, integrating wind, solar, and green hydrogen production to advance Spain's energy transition. This initiative underscores CIP's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and their role in Europe's broader renewable energy landscape.
