Project Overview
Shell Energy Philippines has advanced the development of its Hermosa Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bataan after signing key agreements covering engineering, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations.
The project will feature a 30MW/60MWh battery storage facility designed to strengthen grid reliability and provide greater flexibility to the Philippine power system.
EPC Contract Awarded to Power Dimension
Shell Energy Philippines has awarded the project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract to Power Dimension, Inc.
Under the agreement, Power Dimension will oversee the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the facility. The project will deploy the Power Titan 3.0 battery energy storage system, together with the supporting electrical infrastructure required for grid connection and operation.
Sungrow to Provide Long-Term Services
Shell Energy Philippines has also signed separate Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) agreements with Sungrow Power Technology Solutions Philippines Inc.
The agreements will provide technical support, maintenance and operational services following commissioning, helping ensure the long-term performance and reliability of the storage facility.
Supporting Grid Flexibility
The Hermosa BESS will store electricity during periods of high supply and discharge it when demand increases. With two hours of storage duration, the facility is expected to help manage fluctuations in electricity supply and demand while improving overall grid stability.
Battery storage is becoming increasingly important as the Philippines expands its power generation mix and integrates more renewable energy into the electricity system.
Strengthening the Philippine Energy Infrastructure
According to Shell Energy Philippines, working with experienced partners for construction and long-term operations will provide a strong foundation for delivering the project safely and efficiently.
Once completed, the Hermosa BESS will be fully owned and operated by Shell Energy Philippines, becoming part of the company’s expanding energy infrastructure portfolio in the country.
Shell Energy Philippines operates in the Philippine power market as a power marketing and trading company and participates directly in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). The company also provides energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers.
Outlook
The Hermosa BESS project highlights the growing role of utility-scale battery energy storage in the Philippines. As electricity demand continues to rise and the country integrates a broader mix of renewable and conventional generation, grid-scale storage can provide additional flexibility, reliability and balancing capacity.
The project is expected to contribute to a more reliable, flexible and resilient Philippine electricity system, while supporting the country’s broader energy transition.
