As part of its efforts to make the transition to green energy, the South Korean conglomerate SK Group has announced that it would collaborate in the areas of hydrogen, renewable energy, and green mobility with Malaysian clean energy solutions supplier Gentari.
The three subsidiaries of the conglomerate, SK Materials, SK Ecoplant, and SK Signet, have agreed to cooperate fully in the renewable energy industry with Petronas subsidiary Gentari, according to the Korean company.
The three affiliates’ respective areas of expertise include producing sophisticated materials, building and recycling with SK Ecoplant, and manufacturing fast and ultra-quick chargers for electric cars with SK Signet.
Following an announcement in April that the SK Group and Petronas will collaborate to investigate the new potential in the field of carbon capture and storage, according to the Yonhap article, this is the most recent partnership between the Korean and Malaysian companies.
A completely owned subsidiary of Petronas, Gentari was only formally introduced last week. It aspires to be a one-stop shop for clean energy solutions, including hydrogen, green mobility, and renewable energy and will be available to commercial, industrial, and retail consumers.
The foundation of Gentari was announced in June this year, and it hopes to have 25,000 electric car charging points implemented by 2030, Petronas stated at the time.
A 1.1-gigawatt peak of renewable energy capacity is already in operation and is being developed internationally, according to Gentari, which announced this during its formal debut last week. In order to expand as a low-carbon hydrogen producer, starting with projects in Malaysia, the company also wants to create up to 1.2 mtpa of hydrogen by using expertise in creating major projects.
