SMA Solar Technology Opens €80 Million Energy Technology Factory in Germany

German inverter and energy technology company SMA Solar Technology has officially opened a new manufacturing facility near Kassel, following an investment of approximately €80 million.

The new factory is focused on the large-scale energy infrastructure market and will manufacture technologies covering solar PV, battery energy storage, hybrid energy systems, hydrogen and data-center energy infrastructure.

At full capacity, the facility is designed to achieve more than 60 GW of annual production capacity.

SMA said the investment is intended to strengthen European domestic manufacturing capabilities for energy technologies and support the growing demand for solutions across renewable energy, storage and other energy-intensive infrastructure sectors.

The new facility expands SMA’s manufacturing capabilities in Germany while positioning the company to serve a broader range of large-scale energy infrastructure applications.
