Over 120 low-energy telecom stations integrating solar and battery technology have been set up in rural Liberia to improve network coverage. These stations offer 2G voice and 4G data services, aiming to connect over 580,000 people.

Each site uses solar power, smart lithium batteries, and PowerPilot AI software for energy efficiency. Transmission is managed with microwave, satellite, and 4G relay technologies. The RuralPilot EcoSites project, completed in three months, includes 128 sites supporting the 800MHz and 900MHz bands, a collaboration between ZTE Corporation and Orange Liberia.

ZTE, a Chinese tech company, highlighted that this infrastructure significantly improves communication for rural Liberia. Orange Liberia’s CEO, Jean Marius Yao, noted the sites will boost economic and social development. ZTE’s CEO for the region, Zhang Guanzhen, praised the successful installation despite challenging conditions.

The International Trade Administration recognizes Liberia’s active telecommunications sector, with Lonestar Cell MTN and Orange Liberia as key players.
