Photovoltaic expansion is also making progress in Bremen. According to the Federal Network Agency, around 29.7 megawatts of photovoltaic output was added in the smallest federal state in 2023. This corresponds to an increase of 44.5 percent. PV expansion only grew faster in Hamburg. Compared to Bavaria, the solar leader, Bremen's solar expansion per capita is still five times smaller. Citizens in Bremen and Bremerhaven mainly installed balcony power plants and other solar systems with an output of less than 5 kilowatts, as an evaluation by the Bremen climate protection agency Energiekonsens showed. There is a lack of space in the city state for large open-space photovoltaic systems. The few large systems, such as the 9.3 MW system at the C3 logistics center that went into operation in the fall, are installed by industry and commerce on hall roofs.
