SUNfarming and Spie Join Forces for Europe's Largest Agri-PV Project

German solar projects developer SUNfarming GmbH has entered into a collaboration with French multi-technical services provider Spie SA to build the substation for a planned 753 MWp agrivoltaic (agri-PV) plant in Germany, which is believed to be the largest project of this kind in Europe.

The solar park project, Klimapark Steinhoefel, will be located on an area of about 500 hectares (5,000 decares) across eight local districts in eastern Germany, the two companies said on Wednesday. The facility will be equipped with four transformers to ensure the energy is fed into the grid.

After the installation of the solar systems, the land will be used for perennial fodder crop production and as temporary paddocks for calf and heifer breeding.

As agreed, Spie will provide all services related to the substation construction, including building permit and implementation planning to the complete procurement of materials, primary and secondary planning, as well as assembly and commissioning.

Work on the substation is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2025. Commissioning should take place in the second quarter of 2026.

After that, the first sections of the agrivoltaic park in Steinhoefel will be connected directly to the grid via the substation. The process will be supported by regional distribution network operator E.DIS Netz GmbH.
