Sungrow and ERS Energy Advance Nearly 1 GWh of Energy Storage Projects in Southeast Asia

Malaysia / Philippines | September 15, 2026
Sungrow, a global provider of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems, and Malaysia-based solar engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) company ERS Energy have reached a major milestone in their strategic partnership, advancing energy storage projects totaling nearly 1 GWh across Malaysia and the Philippines.
The collaboration includes two large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects designed to strengthen grid stability, improve renewable energy integration and support the evolving electricity needs of Southeast Asian markets.
Malaysia: Supporting Grid Stability and Solar Integration
In Bahau, Malaysia, the companies are working on the 441 MWh MyBeST project, a four-hour battery energy storage system forming part of the country's national large-scale storage initiative led by the Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga). ERS Energy serves as the EPCC contractor.
The project is expected to enhance grid flexibility by storing electricity when supply is abundant and dispatching it when needed. It will also support greater integration of solar power and help reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based peaking generation.
Philippines: Enabling Flexible Electricity Trading
In the Philippines, Sungrow and ERS Energy are collaborating on a 556 MWh, four-hour BESS project for renewable energy company ACEN, with ERS Energy again serving as the EPCC contractor.
The project features grid-forming capabilities, allowing the battery system to actively support grid voltage and frequency. It is also expected to participate in the Philippines' Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), enabling electricity to be stored and dispatched according to market conditions.
These capabilities could help improve power system responsiveness while creating opportunities to optimize the commercial value of stored electricity.
Energy Storage Gains Momentum Across Southeast Asia
The two projects demonstrate how battery storage can address different market needs across the region. While Malaysia's project focuses on grid flexibility and renewable energy integration, the Philippine project combines grid support capabilities with participation in the electricity market.
As Southeast Asian countries expand their renewable energy capacity, energy storage is becoming increasingly important in balancing supply and demand, managing variable generation and strengthening power system resilience.
The partnership between Sungrow and ERS Energy highlights the growing role of large-scale BESS deployment in supporting the region's energy transition and creating new opportunities for developers, technology providers and investors.
