On August 20th, a signing ceremony for the Indonesian local photovoltaic (PV) supply chain cooperation took place in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The event was attended by Wu Fei, Chairman of Suntech, Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenko Marves), and Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, Coordinating Vice Chairwoman III for Maritime, Investment, and Foreign Affairs of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia). All three representatives participated in signing the cooperation agreement.
During the ceremony, Wu Fei emphasized China’s leadership in the global green energy transition, driven by its strong manufacturing and technological capabilities. He noted that this cooperation aligns with Indonesia’s sustainable development goals and opens up new opportunities for China’s photovoltaic industry. By bringing China’s full photovoltaic industry chain to Indonesia, Suntech aims to combine Chinese technology with the Indonesian market, enhancing the appeal and potential growth of Indonesia’s photovoltaic sector. Indonesian officials welcomed this collaboration, seeing it as a way to introduce advanced technology and expertise to the country, promote energy transformation, and gain policy support.
Wu Fei also reiterated Suntech’s commitment to a “Globalization + Localization” strategy, focusing on optimizing global resource allocation and exploring diverse markets. He highlighted that the partnership with the Indonesian government is a significant aspect of Suntech’s global strategy, especially given Indonesia’s substantial development potential and strong demand for renewable energy. As a Tier 1 PV Module Manufacturer, Suntech aims to introduce advanced Chinese PV technology and industry expertise to Indonesia, driving the country’s green energy transition and creating opportunities for cross-border electricity supply to neighboring countries like Singapore.
Founded in 2001, Suntech was one of the first Chinese photovoltaic companies to expand internationally. Today, it has a global presence, with operations in over 100 countries and regions, including Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, Australia, and Japan. Suntech has a cumulative shipment record exceeding 50 GW. The company’s products are highly regarded for their quality; a study by the Polish Academy of Sciences found that power stations supplied by Suntech experienced less than 3% degradation in power generation over 16 years of operation.
Looking forward, Suntech plans to strengthen its collaboration with Indonesia by introducing high-quality Chinese suppliers, enhancing Indonesia’s photovoltaic manufacturing supply chain, and accelerating energy transformation and industrial upgrading. Suntech remains committed to standing the test of time as it continues to expand its global footprint.
