Swiss retailer Denner to purchase power from agrivoltaic plant

Swiss utility Romande Energie has reached a deal to supply local retailer Denner AG with electricity from a planned agrivoltaic facility in western Switzerland, according to a statement published on Thursday.

The solar plant will be built in the municipality of Conthey and will generate about 600 MWh annually, sufficient to meet the needs of 240 households. The facility will be located on an area of 3,700 square metres, where it will protect strawberries and raspberries from storms.

Under the terms of the power purchase agreement (PPA), power delivery to Denner will begin by the middle of 2025. As agreed, the retailer will purchase the entire output of the new plant and use it to power its sites.

The agreement will help Denner to cut its carbon footprint and speed up its energy transition. This is also a way for electricity consumers such as Denner to support and advance the development of local sustainable projects.

The new solar installation will be built via the technology of Swiss agrivoltaic solution provider Insolight.
