TotalEnergies ENEOS has begun the installation of a nearly 28-megawatt peak (MWp) rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system at the Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This marks TotalEnergies ENEOS’ largest rooftop solar initiative in the country to date.
Under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), TotalEnergies ENEOS will fully invest in, install, operate, and maintain the PV system, which will consist of over 45,000 solar modules. Upon completion, the system is expected to generate more than 40,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually. This green energy will cover approximately 26% of Samsung Electronics’ onsite operational needs, while also helping to reduce more than 26,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
This collaboration furthers Samsung Electronics' commitment to the global RE100 initiative, a program that brings together businesses aiming to source 100% of their electricity from renewable sources. By working with TotalEnergies ENEOS, Samsung not only strengthens its sustainability goals but also fosters greater environmental awareness among its employees, partners, and the local community.
Choonki KWON, President of Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex, emphasized, “We do not consider this as just an energy project. This is the beginning of a comprehensive transformation phase, where technology serves not only operational efficiency but also the sustainable development of people and society.”
Alexandru BUZATU, Director of TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Distributed Generation Asia Pacific, stated, “We are pleased to be Samsung’s green energy partner in Vietnam. With TotalEnergies' global expertise, we are ready to support Samsung’s energy needs and accelerate their clean energy transition in Southeast Asia.”
The project’s launch was marked by the awarding of the Investment Registration Certificate (IRC) to TotalEnergies ENEOS Renewables Projects Vietnam Project Co. Ltd., the entity responsible for the investment. The ceremony was attended by Ingrid Jaumain, Zone Director for TotalEnergies Distributed Generation Asia Pacific, ChoonKi Kwon, President of Samsung Electronics HCMC CE Complex, and Vo Van Hoan, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
This significant step forward in industrial decarbonization also aligns with Vietnam’s broader sustainable development objectives, demonstrating a shared commitment between TotalEnergies ENEOS and Samsung Electronics to create a greener, more sustainable future.
