TotalEnergies, in partnership with OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE), has signed landmark agreements to deliver 300 MW of renewable energy projects in Oman. The electricity generated will be supplied to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the Sultanate's leading exploration and production company, under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs).

TotalEnergies and OQAE will hold respective stakes of 49% and 51% in the venture and will spearhead the development of three renewable energy projects:

  • North Solar: A 100 MW solar power facility in Saih Nihaydah, northern Oman.

  • Riyah-1 and Riyah-2: Two 100 MW wind power projects in the Amin and West Nimr fields, southern Oman.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with electricity production expected by late 2026. These projects will collectively generate over 1.4 TWh of renewable electricity annually.

Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President for Renewables at TotalEnergies, emphasized the significance of this initiative:“Building on our recent successes in Oman, including the Marsa LNG project, we are pleased to advance our multi-energy strategy with OQAE. Together, we are eager to construct these projects, providing sustainable power to PDO and supporting Oman’s energy transition.”

Najla Zuhair Al Jamali, CEO of OQAE, highlighted the partnership’s commitment to sustainability:“In collaboration with PDO and TotalEnergies, OQAE is proud to drive Oman’s shift towards clean energy. These projects mark a significant milestone, aligning with PDO’s decarbonization goals and Oman’s Vision 2040.”

Dr. Aflah Al Hadhrami, Managing Director of PDO, reaffirmed their dedication to net zero:“These agreements align with PDO’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. They represent another step in our journey toward sustainability, complementing previous initiatives such as the Amin Solar IPP Power Plant and Rima Water Treatment Project. By sourcing 30% of our power from renewables by 2026, we are committed to reshaping Oman’s energy landscape for a cleaner future.”

The projects underscore Oman’s commitment to energy diversification, environmental stewardship, and sustainable economic growth.
