Security Bank Corporation has joined forces with Helios, a pioneering climate fintech firm in the Philippines renowned for its innovative solar mortgage program, to transform the accessibility of clean and sustainable energy for Filipinos. The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on February 29, 2024, solidifies this strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s journey toward a greener and more sustainable future.
Helios, recognized for its groundbreaking approach, has played a pivotal role in assisting Filipinos in mitigating their electricity expenses amidst rising costs. Facing mounting financial pressure, homeowners seek relief. By integrating solar panels into housing loans, Helios and Security Bank offer a lifeline to homeowners grappling with high utility bills.
Paz Gonzalez, SVP, and Secured Lending Division Head at Security Bank, emphasized, “By leveraging each other’s strengths, we aim to position our solar mortgage offering not merely as an option, but as a necessity.” This partnership includes a referral arrangement, enabling Helios to direct potential clients to Security Bank for home loans incorporating solar panels, utilization of the home equity option for solar panel acquisition, and provision of solar mortgages to eligible clients through Security Bank’s Top-Up Program.
At the heart of this collaboration lies the development of an innovative financial product integrating solar panel purchases into new or existing housing loans offered by the Bank. This approach not only enhances the accessibility of solar energy but also provides homeowners with a cost-effective solution to embrace renewable energy.
Hsin Yao Cheng, Founder, and CEO of Helios remarked, “Solar mortgages, led by Security Bank, will completely change the way solar is sold and the way we generate value from our homes.” The ability to add solar panels for zero downpayment today creates a passive income stream for families, without having to wait for capital appreciation or rental income.
