The Tunisian government has renewed the financing mechanism for its two national residential solar programs. Société Tunisienne d’Electricité et de Gaz (STEG) has secured a TND 370 million ($121.1 million) financing agreement from Zitouna Bank for the Prosol Residential and Prosol Elec programs, covering the 2024-26 period.
This funding will provide rebates to Tunisian households through the Energy Transition Fund (FNME) and allow for loans to cover equipment purchase and installation costs.
According to the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME), the Prosol program aims to address two key barriers for end consumers: the high initial investment and long payback periods compared to conventional technologies.
The Prosol Elec program supports both businesses and households in developing solar systems for self-consumption. It offers a 30% rebate on project costs through FNME, a free inverter from STEG, and a five-year credit of up to TND 3,000 per kW. The ANME reports that this program has facilitated the installation of approximately 300 MW of solar systems in about 90,000 homes.
