Vestas Appoints Former Shell Executive Anna Mascolo to Lead European and Offshore Wind Operations

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has appointed former Shell executive Anna Mascolo as the new President of Vestas Northern and Central Europe (NCE) and Global Offshore, strengthening its leadership team as the company continues to expand its position in the global renewable energy market.

Mascolo joins Vestas from Shell, where she most recently served as Executive Vice President of Low Carbon Solutions. She brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, with expertise spanning research, energy trading, aviation, chemicals, mergers and acquisitions, and low-carbon technologies.

In her new role, Mascolo will oversee Vestas’ commercial and operational activities across Northern and Central Europe, including sales, construction, service, and development activities for onshore wind projects, while also taking responsibility for the company’s Global Offshore business.

Mascolo succeeds Nils de Baar, who has decided to retire from operational roles after serving as Regional President for more than 10 years. Vestas President and CEO Henrik Andersen recognized de Baar’s contribution to the company’s growth and success in the European wind energy market over the past decade.

Commenting on the appointment, Henrik Andersen highlighted Mascolo’s combination of commercial expertise, international leadership experience, and deep knowledge of the energy sector. He noted that her ability to drive growth, manage large organizations, and strengthen customer relationships will provide important support for Vestas and its customers as Europe continues to pursue secure, affordable, and sustainable energy development.

The appointment comes at a time of continued transformation within the global energy industry. As European markets accelerate renewable energy deployment and focus on strengthening energy security, Vestas aims to leverage Mascolo’s extensive background in both traditional and low-carbon energy sectors to support future growth opportunities in wind power.

Mascolo has officially taken up her new position, while Nils de Baar is expected to leave the company by the end of September. The leadership transition also coincides with Shell’s strategic adjustment of its renewable energy activities, including the previously announced sale of its European onshore renewable portfolio to TotalEnergies. The appointment reflects Vestas’ continued focus on strengthening leadership capabilities and accelerating the development of both onshore and offshore wind businesses amid the ongoing global energy transition.
