Vietnam’s textile and apparel industry pledges for green growth



Vietnam’s Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) has set a goal of achieving green growth in line with country’s renewable energy goal.

The move comes to transform Vietnam's textile and garment industry to be environmentally friendly by 2030.

It has been reported that the industry plans to reduce energy consumption by 15% and water consumption by 20% by 2023.

According to Truong Van Cam, VITA's general secretary, a “greener textile and garment industry not only contributes to implementing the national strategy on green growth but also fulfills the requirements of large textile and garment import markets in the world,” a local report mentioned.

Meanwhile, the European Commission has recommended to make textiles more durable, repairable, reusable and recyclable among others as it is the key market for for Vietnam's textile and footwear industries.


According to VITAS, the industries have been using rooftop solar power and reusing wastewater and adopting other green activities and encouraging green investment projects.
