VinEnergo Commissions 22 MWp Rooftop Solar and 45 MWh BESS Project for VinFast Factories in Vietnam

Vietnam — VinEnergo has officially commissioned a rooftop solar power system combined with battery energy storage in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ha Tinh Province, providing clean electricity to three industrial facilities operated by VinFast, VinES and the V-G battery manufacturing joint venture.
The project comprises 22 MWp of rooftop solar capacity and 45 MWh of battery energy storage, making it a significant example of integrated renewable energy deployment for industrial consumers in Vietnam.
The system is VinEnergo's first project operating under Vietnam's Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism. It is designed to provide a more stable and cost-effective electricity supply while reducing the participating factories' reliance on the national power grid.
According to VinEnergo, the system is expected to generate approximately 39 million kWh of clean electricity during its first year of operation, avoiding more than 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The participating factories are also expected to achieve annual cost savings of nearly VND 3.5 billion.
Supporting Industrial Energy Self-Sufficiency
The project serves three facilities within the Vung Ang industrial complex: the VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing plant, the VinES battery manufacturing facility and the V-G battery manufacturing joint venture.
By combining rooftop solar generation with battery storage, the system enables industrial consumers to make greater use of locally generated renewable electricity while improving energy supply flexibility.
The project also demonstrates how the DPPA mechanism can facilitate direct cooperation between renewable energy developers and large industrial electricity consumers, creating opportunities for businesses to secure cleaner power supplies and manage energy costs.
Expanding VinEnergo's Energy Storage Business
Beyond the Vung Ang project, VinEnergo stated that it is providing BESS solutions for projects operated by Hanoi Power Corporation and Northern Power Corporation, with a combined scale exceeding 1.1 GWh.
The company has also announced a renewable energy project portfolio of approximately 10 GW and plans to expand this portfolio to as much as 100 GW over the next three years.
The commissioning of the Vung Ang project highlights the growing role of integrated solar-plus-storage solutions in Vietnam's industrial sector, particularly as manufacturers seek to improve energy self-sufficiency, reduce emissions and strengthen the competitiveness of their production operations.
