Voltalia SA has initiated construction works at its 49.9-MW solar project in southeastern UK, the French renewable power plants operator said on Monday.
The Paddock photovoltaic (PV) park is scheduled to enter commercial operations in the second half of next year. Once up and running, it wil be able to generate electricity that will be equal to the annual power consumption of more than 14,385 British homes. Its output will help offset over 35,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, Voltalia estimates.
The produced electricity will be sold under long-term corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs).
At present, Voltalia has a portfolio of seven solar and energy storage assets, either in operation or under construction, across the UK. The projects have a combined capacity of roughly 260 MW. According to its latest financial report released earlier in April, 57 MW of solar and 32 MW of hybrid solar-storage plants were in operation in the country at end-2023.
