Walmart, the US retail giant, is set to invest in a portfolio of nearly 43 MW DC community solar projects, developed by Solar Landscape, across Maryland and Illinois. Announced on Wednesday, the investment covers 74 commercial rooftop installations, with both companies committing to future collaboration in the domestic community solar market.
Currently under construction, the solar projects are scheduled to go live between 2024 and 2025. Once operational, they will supply electricity to local communities, powering over 3,600 homes and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 40,000 tonnes annually.
Approximately half of the portfolio is designed to lower energy costs for low- and moderate-income households (LMI), with projected savings of around USD 1 million per year for subscribers, according to Solar Landscape.
“Developing community solar projects on commercial rooftops is the quickest and most efficient way to bring electricity savings to communities,” said Clayton Avent, CFO of Solar Landscape.
