Why Vietnam’s Existing Solar Assets Could Become the Next BESS Opportunity
Trinasolar Adds 10 MWh BESS to Solar Asset at Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Resort
Trinasolar has supplied a 3 MWp solar PV system and 10 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for a solar-plus-storage project at Corona Resort in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, highlighting the growing potential for integrating energy storage with existing commercial solar assets.
The project combines 3 MWp of Trinasolar Vertex N 725W n-type i-TOPCon modules with a 10 MWh AC-coupled Trina Storage Elementa 2 BESS.
Developed by Nam Viet Green Energy JSC, the project is expected to connect to the grid and begin commercial operations in mid-September 2026.

From Solar Generation to Solar + Storage
Corona Resort is one of Vietnam's major integrated resort destinations, with electricity demand increasing alongside tourism activity.
The site initially had approximately 5.5 MWp of solar PV capacity installed. The additional 3 MWp of PV and 10 MWh of BESS represent an expansion of the existing renewable energy asset rather than a completely new standalone project.
The configuration demonstrates one emerging pathway for Vietnam's C&I renewable energy market: retrofitting existing solar installations with battery storage to increase flexibility and improve the utilisation of onsite generation.
By combining daytime solar generation with energy storage, the integrated system is expected to:
Increase utilisation of onsite solar generation
Reduce peak electricity demand
Improve energy cost management
Strengthen power supply resilience
Improve overall operational efficiency
Why 10 MWh of BESS Matters
The project is particularly notable for its 3 MWp-to-10 MWh solar-plus-storage configuration, demonstrating how battery storage can be used to extend the value of renewable generation beyond periods of direct solar production.
For large commercial facilities with significant electricity demand, BESS can provide greater flexibility in when solar electricity is consumed, potentially allowing businesses to better align renewable generation with their operational requirements.
Trinasolar also provided technical input on the BESS configuration and operating strategy, rather than acting solely as a hardware supplier.
According to Nam Viet Green Energy, Trinasolar's experience across both PV and energy storage helped shape a solution aligned with the project's technical and commercial requirements.
Vietnam’s BESS Market Is Scaling Up
The Phu Quoc project comes against the backdrop of Vietnam's broader energy storage ambitions.
Vietnam is targeting 10,000–16,300 MW of BESS capacity by 2030, reflecting the increasing importance of storage in integrating solar and wind power, improving dispatchability and strengthening energy security.
The Corona Resort project therefore provides an example of how this broader storage expansion could translate into commercial and industrial applications, particularly where existing solar assets can be upgraded with batteries.
For Trinasolar, the project also demonstrates its strategy of combining PV technology, BESS and system-level expertise to support the development of solar-plus-storage projects in Vietnam.
As Vietnam's renewable energy market continues to develop, the integration of storage into existing solar assets could become an increasingly important pathway for improving both renewable energy utilisation and power-system flexibility.
