Spanish renewables pure-player Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) announced the start of commercial operation of its 380-MW/480-MWp Aldoga solar farm in Queensland, Australia.
Now online, Aldoga is expected to generate enough electricity to power about 185,000 households annually and cut roughly 934,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. All output will be supplied to state-owned Stanwell Corporation under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Stanwell CEO Michael O’Rourke said the company will sell that power into the spot market or to commercial and industrial customers.
Australia is a strategic country for Acciona Energia, which, for over a year, has been picking assets in other regions for rotation. The Spanish company now has close to 2 GW of renewables in operation or under construction in the country and it is currently commissioning the 923-MW MacIntyre wind farm in Queensland, said to be one of the largest such facilities in the southern hemisphere.
