Acciona Energia, a leading developer of renewable energy projects, is all set to develop the Herries Range Wind Farm.
The wind farm project is an expansion of the MacIntyre Wind Precinct to double the capacity to 2000MW.
It has been reported that the 1023MW MacIntyre Precinct will be equipped with 180 5.7MW turbines. The project is under construction.
Currently, there are two wind farms including MacIntyre of 923MW, owned by ACCIONA Energia and Ark Energy and Karara Wind Farm.
“Today we’re proud to announce that we have commenced development activities for the Herries Range Wind Farm to add an additional thousand megawatts of renewable energy to Queensland’s energy mix,” Acciona Energia Managing Director in Australia Brett Wickham was quoted in a statement.
“In total, the MacIntyre Precinct would reach a capacity of 2GW, representing an overall investment of more than €2.5 billion and enough clean energy to supply the equivalent of 1.4m homes per year,” he further commented.
Meanwhile, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk remarked, “Our Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan is all about bringing more cheaper, cleaner energy into the system.”
Acciona Energia said that its new A$2 billion investment could help to contribute to renewable energy development.
