APECO and Huge Energy Sign MOU for 1 GW Renewable Energy Project in Aurora

The Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO) and Huge Energy Co., Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the development of a large-scale renewable energy project inside the Casiguran-based economic zone in Aurora, Philippines.

The project targets an aggregate capacity of 1 GW, to be developed in three phases alongside new energy and grid infrastructure.

The first phase will focus on approximately 100 MW of solar photovoltaic generation, battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity and a substation.

The second phase is planned to add 350 MW of generation capacity through a combination of solar and waste-to-energy technologies, while the third phase would add a further 550 MW.

APECO is allocating 90 hectares of land for the project. The partnership will cover project planning and engineering, feasibility studies, permitting and government approvals, grid interconnection, power offtake arrangements, project financing, equipment procurement, engineering, procurement and construction, as well as eventual operations and maintenance.

Each phase will be subject to technical and financial feasibility studies, due diligence, grid requirements and applicable government approvals.

Huge Energy will undertake the project in partnership with South Korean energy, procurement and construction company Dong-A Global Co., Ltd.

APECO said the project is intended to strengthen energy infrastructure within the economic zone, improve power availability and affordability, and support the development of future industrial and manufacturing activities in Aurora.
