Brazil's Installed Solar Capacity Surpasses 47 GW

Brazil's solar industry has recently achieved a new milestone by surpassing 47 GW of installed solar power generating capacity.

This figure includes both large and small-scale plants and accounts for 19.8% of the country's total power mix, according to data provided by local solar association Absolar.

Since 2012, the rollout of solar energy across Brazil has brought in investments totalling BRL 217.8 billion (USD 40.3bn/EUR 36.1bn) that have created more than 1.4 million local jobs, Absolar said.

CEO Rodrigo Sauaia commented that non-hydro renewable sources are a relief to the country's grid as, without them, rates would be even higher, supply risk would be greater and the air could carry even more pollution from burning more fuels.
