EDF, DIF and Ib Vogt are all set to trade and offtake the energy from solar and battery assets with a combined 116MW capacity in Europe.
It will be possible by sharing a transmission grid connection at Warley, UK. The deal is one of the first of its kind in the UK.
As per the agreement, EDF will manage the co-located assets together through the use of the shared transmission level grid connection, the company said. The project will come into operation in 2024.
Under the 10-year deal, EDF will offtake the energy produced by the solar farm and optimise the 50MW battery through its proprietary Powershift platform, the company informed.
With the combined capacity of 116MW, it is expected that the project could turn Warley as one of the UK’s largest co-located sites.
Stuart Fenner, director of wholesale market service commercial, at EDF was quoted in a statement, "We are very pleased that we have been chosen to deliver trading, optimisation and offtake services for one of the UK’s largest co-located solar and battery sites.”
He said, "This unique deal exemplifies the innovation needed to address our energy challenges, which will help to secure green energy for the future and deliver on our commitment to help Britain achieve net zero."
The companies have expressed hope that the partnership will not just provide the grid with essential flexibility, but also a reliable and secure source of energy.
