EDP Renewables (EDPR) has strengthened its position in Italy’s renewable energy sector by connecting two large-scale solar plants to the grid.
The Castrum 13 project in Montalto di Castro and Tuscia 21 in Tuscania, both located in Viterbo, have a combined installed capacity of 103 MWp (82 MWac). Together, they are expected to generate over 156 GWh annually, supplying clean energy to approximately 60,000 homes and avoiding 67,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
This achievement comes shortly after EDPR connected its largest solar plant in Italy, the 72 MWp Tuscania plant, and follows the summer launch of the 10 MWp Boccadoro plant in Puglia.
Roberto Pasqua, Executive Director for South and East Europe at EDPR, highlighted the company’s commitment to Italy’s energy transition, noting that “over the next few months, EDPR will deliver an additional 200 MW of new solar and wind projects.”
EDP entered the Italian market in 2010, initially focusing on wind farms, before diversifying into solar energy. To date, the company has installed and is constructing around 1 GW of combined solar and wind capacity, primarily in southern Italy, aligning with Italy's ambitious renewable energy targets.
