German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG and its partners Thuga Erneuerbare Energien and Stadtwerk Tauberfranken have brought online a 68MW solar park in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg.
The photovoltaic (PV) plant is the largest one of its kind currently operating in the southwestern federal state, EnbW said. Its opening was marked at an official ceremony attended by Baden-Wurttemberg’s Minister for the Environment, Climate Action and Energy Affairs.
Located in the town of Kulsheim, Main-Tauber district, the Gickelfeld solar complex is made up of two individual plants with common infrastructure facilities, grid connection, substation and cabling. The site’s annual electricity output is expected to be enough to cover the consumption of about 24,000 homes.
The larger of the two solar parks has an installed capacity of about 38 MW and was installed by Thuga Erneuerbare Energien and Stadtwerk Tauberfranken. The smaller plant, of 30 MW in size, is operated by EnBW.
Both solar farms will be run without support from the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG) funding scheme.
