The Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA) has announced a call for expressions of interest (EOI) from qualified private mini-grid developers for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Bulimeni Solar PV-Battery Mini-Grids Project. This initiative is part of the Africa Minigrids Program (AMP), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the UNDP, Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The Bulimeni Solar PV-Battery Mini-Grids Project aims to enhance access to clean energy in the remote Bulimeni community in the Shiselweni Region, which consists of 92 households, of which 60 are suitable for off-grid systems. The project is designed to provide sustainable electricity solutions, leveraging solar PV and battery technology to create a reliable energy source for both residential and productive use.
Submissions are due by 12 noon (SAST) on Friday, August 23, 2024.
The AMP Eswatini project is part of a broader initiative to support renewable energy mini-grid development across Africa. It aligns with Eswatini’s National Energy Policy (2018) and the Kingdom of Eswatini Energy Masterplan, 2034, aiming for universal energy access through renewable sources. The project will receive up to 45% subsidy on Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) from ESERA, with the private developer providing at least 55% of the CAPEX.
This project presents a significant opportunity for developers to contribute to Eswatini’s renewable energy goals and support the local community’s energy needs through innovative and sustainable solutions.
