Under the Modernisation Fund, 2.17 billion euros has been disbursed to help modernise the energy systems in nine Member States through 19 selected projects. These investments will help lower-income EU countries to meet their 2030 climate and energy targets and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in energy, industry and transport and improve energy efficiency.
Support from the Modernisation Fund was granted this year to Bulgaria (197 million euros), Croatia (88 million euros), Czechia (1.848 billion euros), Estonia (66 million euros), Latvia (5 million euros), Lithuania (11 million) euros, Poland (221 million euros), Romania (2.169 billion euros) and Slovakia (60 million euros).
“With disbursements of 4.66 billion euros this year across nine countries, we will contribute to advancing towards our 2030 climate and energy targets while reaping the benefits of the green transition,” said Maroš Šefčovič, Executive Vice-President for European Green deal, Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight. “These investments exemplify our commitment to tackle climate change and support Member States on their path to climate neutrality. The Modernisation Fund is a very important instrument in this regard.”
