European energy developers finalized 20 power purchase agreements (PPAs) totaling 1,429 MW in June, marking a sharp rebound from the previous month, according to the latest report by Swiss renewable energy analytics firm Pexapark.
This represents a 40% increase in the number of agreements compared to May and a 700% jump in disclosed capacity volumes, signaling a strong recovery following what Pexapark described as May’s “unsettling slip,” which recorded the lowest monthly volume since 2020. June’s performance also surpassed the volume signed in the same month of the previous year.
Solar energy dominated the activity, contributing 1,183 MW across 12 agreements. The largest PPA of the month was secured between Enfinity Global Inc., an independent power producer, and an unnamed U.S. technology company, covering a 420 MW solar portfolio in Italy.
The second-largest agreement involved Sonnedix, a renewable energy developer, and Renfe, Spain’s national railway operator. Linked to a solar portfolio, this deal is estimated at 240 MW, based on a contracted annual supply of 420 GWh.
Additionally, Transport for London (TfL) announced its first public PPA, a 15-year agreement with EDF Renewables UK. The deal will see TfL offtake approximately 20% of the output from a solar project scheduled for construction in 2026.
Overall, corporate PPAs accounted for over 93% of June’s contracted volume—1,336 MW across 15 deals—highlighting continued strong demand from commercial and industrial energy buyers.
Pexapark’s benchmark PPA price remained relatively stable, closing the month at €49.60/MWh ($57.75), reflecting a modest 0.5% increase compared to May.
Price movements, however, varied across regional markets. Portugal and Spain recorded the largest monthly price gains, rising by 4.9% and 4.2%, respectively. France, Germany, Italy, and Poland also saw price increases.
Conversely, the UK registered the largest decline, with prices falling 2.7%. The Netherlands and Nordic countries reported minor decreases of 0.2% and 0.4%, respectively.
After six months into the year, Pexapark reports that the monthly average of newly signed PPAs in 2025 stands at 1,013 MW, down 26% from the 1,376 MW average recorded over the same period in 2024.
