On June 22, 2026, the 4th Solar Energy Storage Future Germany 2026, hosted by Energy Box, was successfully held at the Munich Marriott Hotel City West in Munich, Germany.
The conference brought together more than 300 industry representatives and over 60 speakers from across Europe’s solar PV, energy storage, power trading, project development, EPC, investment, technical service, and industry association sectors.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the development trends of Europe’s solar and energy storage markets, project bankability, revenue models, engineering delivery, digital operations, and commercial and industrial energy storage applications.

Against the backdrop of Europe’s accelerating energy transition and evolving power market mechanisms, the conference focused on the industry’s new stage of development — from capacity expansion to system optimization — and provided a high-quality platform for exchange across the European solar and storage value chain.
Opening Address
In the opening session, Dr. Andreas Hauer, member of BVES Energy Storage Systems Association, delivered a keynote speech titled “Energy Storage – Flexibility for the Integration of Renewables.” He systematically explained the critical role of energy storage in supporting the large-scale integration of renewable energy.

Dr. Hauer noted that future energy systems will shift from a fossil fuel-based, centralised structure towards a more distributed and diversified system centred on renewable energy sources such as solar PV and wind power. In this transition, the power system will not only need to balance supply and demand across time and space, but also improve overall flexibility through energy storage, energy management, heat pumps, thermal storage, bidirectional EV charging, and cross-user coordination.

He emphasized that energy storage is no longer merely a standalone battery device, but an important infrastructure component supporting the coordinated operation of electricity, heat, transport, and distributed energy. Whether in utility-scale grid-side storage or behind-the-meter applications for residential and C&I users, energy storage will play an increasingly important role in regulating and supporting future energy systems.

Christian Theeck, Global Energy Business Line Manager at TÜV SÜD, delivered a keynote presentation titled “The New Era of Bankability.” His speech focused on the bankability, reliability, and risk control of energy storage projects in a new market environment.

Christian Theeck pointed out that as energy storage projects continue to scale up, investors, developers, and asset owners are redefining their understanding of project bankability. Whether a project is truly bankable no longer depends solely on the qualification of individual equipment, but increasingly on the long-term performance of the overall system under real operating conditions, the integration and interoperability of different components, and the safety assurance capability across the project lifecycle.

He emphasized that future energy storage projects need to move from component-level certification towards asset-level assurance, covering design review, laboratory testing, factory acceptance, on-site commissioning, operational monitoring, and cybersecurity. Through independent third-party verification and structured risk management, project stakeholders can better bridge the gap between technical promises and actual performance, providing more reliable support for investment decisions and long-term operations.
Panel Discussion 1
In the panel discussion titled “Revenue Stacking and Hybrid Assets: Maximizing Returns from Storage + Solar,” speakers explored revenue stacking models, trading mechanisms, and the long-term investment value of hybrid solar-plus-storage assets.
The session was moderated by Dr. Thomas Hillig, Founder and Managing Director at THEnergy.
Panelists included Christian Pho Duc, CTO at Smartenergy Group AG; Christian Barba Rodulfo, Senior Director of Energy Storage at EDP Renewables; Hannes Langenhan, Managing Partner at Aracari Energy; Rosanna Burling, Head of Portfolio Strategy and Business Excellence, Solar and Batteries at Vattenfall; Amós Guillén Duarte, Managing Director at FRV Germany; Olga Sypuła, Vice President & Regional Manager of Central Europe at European Energy; and Edith Seemann, Managing Director Project Development at Cube Green Energy/SUNfarming.

The panelists agreed that, as volatility in European power markets increases and storage business models mature, the value of solar and storage projects is no longer limited to power generation alone. By integrating spot market trading, ancillary services, capacity mechanisms, PPAs, and flexibility services, storage assets are gaining stronger revenue resilience.
The discussion highlighted revenue stacking as an important pathway for scaling energy storage projects across Europe. However, its implementation still depends on clearer market rules, more mature data models, and stronger asset operation capabilities. As hybrid assets become more common in the European market, balancing risk control with revenue optimisation will become a core issue in project development and investment decision-making.

Frank Polhaus, Managing Director at Teos Energy GmbH, delivered a keynote presentation titled “From Design to Deployment: Challenges in BESS Construction.”
Drawing on practical project experience, he provided a systematic overview of common engineering challenges faced during the design, construction, and delivery of large-scale battery energy storage systems.

Mr. Frank noted that BESS projects often encounter more complex on-site conditions than initially anticipated, including contaminated land, limited construction access, flood risks, high groundwater levels, soft soil foundations, terrain differences, and auxiliary power metering arrangements. If these factors are not identified at an early stage, they can directly affect project schedules, cost control, and final delivery quality.
He emphasized that BESS projects require earlier involvement from engineering, civil works, electrical, and project management teams during the design phase, rather than relying on passive design adjustments after key decisions have already been fixed. Long-lead equipment procurement, detailed construction drawings, and site condition assessments should also be more closely coordinated in order to reduce delivery risks and improve the constructability and operability of large-scale storage projects.
Panel Discussion 2
In the panel discussion titled “From Expansion to Optimization: Unpacking the Forces Reshaping Europe’s Energy Storage Market,” speakers discussed the shifting stages of Europe’s storage market, project optimization logic, and system integration capabilities.
The session was moderated by Julian Hardy, Grid Integration Hybrid & Ancillary Services Expert - External at ENERCON.

Panellists included Lars Löhle, CCO at Entrix; Erdem Eskiil, Director of Project Execution at CLARITAS Investments; Sudheesh Sureshkumar, Partner at Mobilize AI x Energy VC; Rizqah MacGirlley, Product and Project Manager at Solar MD; Mert Oneren, Managing Director at Mesra Energy; Bastian Scheele, Investment Director at BW ESS; Stefan Ramaseder, Team Lead Origination at QUADRA energy; and Oleg Kim, Director Sales and Operations at Sineng Electric.
During the discussion, Oleg Kim from Sineng Electric joined as an industry representative. Panellists widely agreed that Europe’s energy storage market is moving from an early phase of rapid expansion into a new phase that places greater emphasis on project optimization, system integration capability, market response speed, and long-term revenue performance.

Storage projects are no longer simply about being built; they must also perform well, generate stable returns, and remain sustainable over time.
Speakers also noted that today’s European storage projects face key challenges including grid connection queues, price volatility, complex revenue models, and differences in project execution capability. In the future, companies with high-efficiency power conversion, reliable system integration, fast response capability, and strong local service capacity will play a more important role in Europe’s energy storage market.

Mike, International Sales Manager at MASTERWORK, gave a technical presentation on next-generation PV module technology, focusing on the performance of its Quad-Core module solution in reducing shading losses, mitigating hot spot risks, and improving power generation under complex application scenarios.

Mike noted that in C&I rooftop and distributed PV applications, dust, partial shading, and varied installation environments often affect module power generation efficiency and may create hot spot risks. Through a new module architecture, MASTERWORK further optimises current pathways and shading response capability, reducing the impact of localised shading on overall power generation performance.

In the presentation, MASTERWORK demonstrated through comparative testing the advantages of its new-generation modules in hot spot temperature control and power retention. The solution provides a new technical reference for C&I rooftops, complex installation environments, and high-reliability application scenarios. It also reflects how PV module innovation is moving beyond simple power output improvement towards a more comprehensive optimization of energy yield, safety, and long-term stability.
Panel Discussion 3
In the panel discussion titled “PPA Market Evolution: Cross-Border and Interconnected Structures for Renewable Investments,” speakers explored changes in Europe’s PPA market structure, cross-border trading models, and renewable energy investment mechanisms.
The session was moderated by Filipe de Oliveira Lopes, Associate Director at Greenvolt Group.
Panellists included Daniel Peschel, Senior PPA Originator at Ampyr Solar Europe; Alberto Latorre, PPA and BESS Origination Manager - Southern Europe at Nadara; Tobias Schuh, Head of Energy Transition Products at Enovos Deutschland; and Mohamed Ibrahim, Senior PPA and Power Market Manager at CYCAP.

Speakers pointed out that as renewable energy projects continue to expand across Europe, PPAs are evolving from traditional bilateral agreements into more flexible, multi-regional, and multi-structured trading models. Cross-border PPAs, virtual PPAs, and power contract structures under interconnected market frameworks are becoming important tools for corporate green power procurement and long-term project revenue generation.
The discussion concluded that the future of the PPA market will depend on how effectively stakeholders can balance price stability, offtake risk, market volatility, and project financing requirements. For developers and investors, more mature contract structures and clearer risk allocation mechanisms will help improve the financing attractiveness and long-term revenue stability of renewable energy projects.
Networking Lunch
The networking lunch provided attendees with an opportunity for deeper communication and business discussions.

The atmosphere was lively, with many companies using the opportunity to further present their solutions and project experience while discussing potential cooperation opportunities. The lunch session also continued the professional conversations from the morning programme and set the stage for further discussions in the afternoon.

Panel Discussion 4
The afternoon agenda opened with a focus on engineering delivery and risk management for large-scale projects. In the panel discussion titled “EPC Challenges in Utility-Scale Projects: Deliverability and Project Risk,” speakers examined deliverability, EPC execution capability, and project risk in utility-scale projects.

The session was moderated by Lars Josten Calçada, Project Director Germany at Giga Storage GmbH.
Panellists included Koen Hartmann, Technical Development Lead at GIGA Storage; Salim Bouziri, Head of Engineering (Western Europe) at GOLDBECK SOLAR GmbH; Marc d'Erceville, Strategic Partnerships at Detra Solar; and Marisol Masella, Founder at The Not Coal Company.
Panellists agreed that as large-scale solar and storage projects continue to grow in Europe, EPC capability has become a key factor determining project success. Projects not only require high-quality design, but also strong execution capability across procurement, construction, grid connection, commissioning, and operations.
Drawing on their project experience in solar, storage, and large-scale energy infrastructure, speakers noted that common market challenges include supply chain uncertainty, construction schedule pressure, complex technical interfaces, changing site conditions, and stricter grid requirements.
Overall, competition in future large-scale projects will shift from pure price competition towards engineering management capability, risk identification, and long-term delivery quality.

Walter Girardello, Business Development Manager at SKYWORTH, delivered a presentation introducing SKYWORTH’s global footprint, European market positioning, and integrated solar solutions.

Walter Girardello introduced that SKYWORTH traces its roots back to 1988, with business coverage across more than 120 countries and regions, as well as multiple R&D centres, manufacturing bases, and branch offices worldwide.
As an important part of the group’s new energy business, SKYWORTH focuses on distributed PV, C&I solar, energy storage, and integrated energy solutions, continuously extending its ecosystem from smart homes to zero-carbon energy.

In the presentation, SKYWORTH PV highlighted its comprehensive capabilities in PV modules, inverters, energy storage systems, mounting structures, and O&M services.
The company also introduced residential, C&I, and utility-scale solutions for the European market, together with diversified cooperation models including EPC, PPA investment, and joint development. This demonstrated its strategic direction of transforming from a product supplier into an integrated energy solutions provider.

Harold Hu, Energy Storage Technical Director at LISINER, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Reshaping the Value of Energy Assets and Opening a New Era of Computing-Power Synergy.”

Starting from the rapidly growing energy demand driven by AI computing, he explored how distributed energy assets can increase their value through integrated computing and power solutions.
Harold Hu noted that the rapid growth of intelligent computing centres is reshaping energy infrastructure needs. In this context, electricity costs, green power consumption, power supply stability, and system response speed are becoming key factors affecting the long-term operation of intelligent computing centres.
Traditional energy systems are increasingly unable to fully meet the requirements of AI computing scenarios for highly reliable, low-carbon, and efficient power supply.

LISINER introduced its “GALAXY” computing-power synergy solution. As a newly launched distributed computing-power integration solution, the GALAXY 800 technical architecture adopts an 800V full-DC architecture, featuring seamless response, lightweight deployment, and high-efficiency conversion.
It supports deep coordination among green power, energy storage systems, microgrids, and computing loads. Through an AI-driven monitoring, dispatch, and optimization platform, LISINER upgrades distributed energy from “power supply infrastructure” into energy assets that can be operated, optimized, and monetized, creating a positive ecosystem in which electricity supports computing and computing optimizes electricity.

In the panel discussion titled “Digital & AI Panel: Maximizing Efficiency with Software Defined Energy,” speakers explored software-defined energy, digital O&M, and the application of AI in energy asset management.
The session was moderated by Joachim Rupp, Senior Advisor at Apricum.
Panelists included Jean-Marc GUILLOU, Technical Director Energy Storage System at Socomec Group; Juan Manuel Roldán, CEO & Founder at FIDgate; Susanna Hasenoehrl, Global Growth and Strategic Advisor at European Women on Boards (EWOB); Cristoph Prahl, CEO at Volateq; and Dr. Daniel Gaefke, Chief Operating Officer at BayWa r.e.

Panelists noted that as solar and storage assets continue to scale, traditional project management approaches that rely heavily on manual experience can no longer fully meet the operational needs of complex market environments. Digital tools are increasingly being applied across project design, generation forecasting, trading optimisation, O&M management, and asset evaluation.
The discussion highlighted that the value of AI and software platforms lies not only in improving O&M efficiency, but also in helping asset owners and investors better understand asset performance, forecast revenue changes, and respond in a timely manner to power price fluctuations, equipment anomalies, and market opportunities. In the future, energy asset management capabilities will increasingly depend on data quality, algorithmic capability, and cross-system coordination.

In the panel discussion titled “Market Focus: Unlocking Europe’s Next Wave of Solar + Storage Demand,” speakers discussed the next phase of solar and storage demand growth in Europe.
The session was moderated by Paulina Jung, Global Head of M&A at Greening Group.
Panelists included Juan Carlos Badillo, Managing Partner at AtZ Investment Partners Energy & Infra; Dr. Lennard Wilkening, CEO at suena energy; Christian Went, Director Sales BESS DACH region at Exide Technologies; Roderik von Meyenfeldt, Head of Business Development at Sunrock; Afrida Kabir, Investment Associate at Encavis; Augustin Debroeck, Originator & Commercial Structurer – Energy Transition Trading at EnBW; and Alexander Romanos, Country Manager (Greece) at Suntech.

Alexander Romanos from Suntech joined the discussion as a panelist. Speakers widely agreed that the next wave of growth in the European market will not only come from large-scale ground-mounted plants, but also from C&I distributed systems, rooftop PV, campus energy systems, battery storage, and new business models combined with power trading.

Speakers noted that European users are paying increasing attention to green electricity, energy independence, and electricity cost control.
However, project implementation is still affected by factors such as grid capacity, policy mechanisms, investment payback periods, and supply chain stability. In the future, companies that can integrate products, financing, development, operations, and local services will be better positioned to convert market demand into actual projects.

Leo Sun, VP of Global Sales at HIZENERGY, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Navigating Complex C&I Energy Scenarios – Solutions.”
His presentation focused on energy storage solutions for complex commercial and industrial energy scenarios.

Leo Sun pointed out that today’s C&I users face multiple energy challenges, including electricity price volatility, demand charge pressure, higher requirements for power supply reliability, increasing renewable energy integration, and the impact of new loads such as EV charging. Against this backdrop, C&I energy storage is no longer simply a peak-shaving and valley-filling device, but must be adapted to specific scenarios to provide users with more flexible, safer, and more economical integrated energy solutions.

In the presentation, HIZENERGY showcased its liquid-cooled energy storage systems for C&I scenarios and its customised “one-site-one-solution” approach, covering applications such as PV+BESS, integrated charging and storage, on-grid/off-grid switching, campus integrated energy, and power quality management.
The company also shared its project implementation experience in Europe and global markets, while emphasising its ability to deliver more stable energy storage systems through standardised products, intelligent manufacturing, strict quality control, and localised service capabilities.
Leo Sun further introduced that HIZENERGY has accumulated extensive experience in C&I energy storage projects and continues to upgrade its product portfolio for future market needs, including the new-generation ES300 series energy storage products.

In the panel discussion titled “Energy Storage as an Investable Asset Class: Risk Assessment, IRR Structures and Project-Specific Investment Strategies,” speakers discussed the viability, risks, and returns of energy storage as an investment asset class.
The session was moderated by Fabio Aprà, Head of PV and BESS Transaction at Vertex Energy GmbH.

Panelists included Jan Fousek, CEO at Czech Energy Storage Association (AKU-BAT CZ); Velizar Cholakov, Head of Business Development at Hec Solar; Corentin Baschet, Partner at Clean Horizon; Markus Heiss, Shareholder and Senior Advisor at Altlas Grid Development Partners; Grace Kankindi, Deputy Head of Investment Management at Aquila Clean Energy EMEA; Thomas Gummert, Partner at Eight Advisory Germany GmbH; and Dr. Amir José Daou Pulido, Team Lead BESS at RWE Renewables.
Panelists agreed that as storage market mechanisms gradually mature, energy storage is evolving from a technology-driven project type into an asset class with independent investment value.

However, compared with traditional solar or wind projects, energy storage has a more complex revenue structure and places higher requirements on power market understanding, trading capability, O&M capability, and risk control.
The discussion noted that investors are particularly focused on revenue predictability, asset lifetime, safety standards, grid connection conditions, and policy stability. In the future, storage projects with clear revenue models, mature trading strategies, and reliable technical validation will be more likely to secure capital support.

In the closing panel titled “Europe’s Grid Access Regime: Permitting, Filtering and Deliverability,” speakers discussed grid access, project selection, and deliverability across Europe.
The session was moderated by Rezzan Güzel, Manager – BESS & Grid Solutions at HGC Elektrotechnik GmbH.
Panelists included Ralf Wiesenberg, Vice President Development – Power & Energy at ACS Digital & Energy; Pedro Westerman, Senior European Development Manager at Eku Energy; Marco Frascati, Managing Director and founder at MIRAI Power; Dariusz Perkowski, Chief Energy Storage & Flexibility Officer at Energix Polska; Patrick Clerens, Secretary General at Energy Storage Europe; and Sascha Krause-Tünker, CFO at Next2Sun.

Panellists noted that as the number of solar and energy storage project applications increases rapidly, grid capacity has become a key bottleneck in several European markets.
Whether a project can be successfully delivered depends not only on its own business model, but also on grid permits, technical connection requirements, grid expansion progress, and the efficiency of regulatory procedures.
The discussion concluded that the European market will need more transparent project filtering mechanisms, more efficient permitting processes, and more reasonable grid resource allocation. For developers, assessing grid feasibility in advance, strengthening communication with grid operators, and improving project design and execution quality will be crucial to improving project success rates.

Towards the end of the conference, Energy Box hosted a prestigious awards ceremony.
Selected through a rigorous evaluation process and professionally endorsed by BVES, the German energy storage association, the awards were designed to recognize companies and individuals that have made meaningful contributions to renewable energy, energy storage, distributed energy, technological innovation, and sustainable development across Europe.
Individual Awards
In the individual awards category, Grace Kankindi, Deputy Head of Investment Management at Aquila Clean Energy, received the “Green Energy Prominent Woman” award.

She brings extensive international investment experience across Europe, Africa, and North America, and has contributed to the development and investment of more than 7 GW of clean energy assets spanning solar PV, onshore wind, and battery storage. Her work reflects the growing impact of female leadership and professional excellence in global renewable energy investment.
Iva Jukić, Head of Development Germany at Cero Generation, also received the “Green Energy Prominent Woman” award.

As a renewable energy development leader with deep experience in Germany and international markets, she has long been involved in the full lifecycle of solar PV and battery energy storage projects, covering origination, permitting, transaction, and delivery. Her work has made a meaningful contribution to the implementation of renewable energy projects in Germany and across Europe.
Olga Sypuła, Vice President & Regional Manager of Central Europe at European Energy, was also honoured with the “Green Energy Prominent Woman” award.

Bringing a multidisciplinary background as an energy executive, engineer, project manager, and urban planner, she has been deeply engaged in the energy sector since 2007 and has actively advanced industry dialogue, renewable energy cooperation, and the green transition across Central Europe.
Dr. Tobias Schuh, Head of Energy Transition Products at Enovos Deutschland, received the “Green Leadership Empowerment Awards” recognition.

With extensive experience in the energy transition field, he currently leads work at Enovos in areas including PPAs, flexibility solutions, and storage-related products. His efforts continue to help move the energy transition from concept to commercially viable, scalable market implementation.
Franjo Salic, Chief Investment Officer at CYCAP Asset Management, also received the “Green Leadership Empowerment Awards” recognition.

As a senior investment leader in renewable energy infrastructure, he has long been involved in managing large-scale renewable energy portfolios, spanning M&A, asset management, and portfolio management. He has also played an important role in advancing repowering and hybrid asset strategies in the German renewables market.
Bastian Scheele, Investment Director at BW ESS, was presented with the “Green Infrastructure Vanguard Award.”

With more than 15 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, his expertise spans utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, project development, and investment transactions. He has built a strong track record in advancing green infrastructure investment, project development, and the delivery of renewable energy assets.

In the corporate awards category, SolarSpace received the “Solar Omnipotent Contribution Enterprises” award.

Following the awards ceremony, the conference continued with a relaxed cocktail reception. Industry representatives from Europe’s solar PV, energy storage, power trading, investment, and technical service sectors continued to exchange views on project cooperation, market opportunities, and future development trends in a more open and informal setting.

Overall, the 4th Solar Energy Storage Future Germany 2026 not only showcased the continued vitality of Europe’s solar and storage market, but also highlighted several key directions for the industry’s future development: energy storage is evolving from a standalone device into a system-level flexibility asset; project bankability and deliverability are becoming critical to implementation; digitalisation and AI are reshaping energy asset operations; and C&I energy storage is emerging as one of the most promising application scenarios in the European market.
