GE Vernova has been selected to supply a 48MW battery energy storage system (BESS) for a project in Cornwall, southwest UK.
Varco Energy, funded by Adaptogen Capital, has chosen GE Vernova to provide the complete BESS for the Sambar Power project. The FLEXRESERVOIR system from GE Vernova will include FLEXIQ Controls, FLEXINVERTER central inverters, and Battery DC-Blocks, all scaled to meet the project's capacity. This system will provide balancing and capacity services to the national grid. In addition, GE Vernova will also provide a long-term service agreement for the project.
Varco Energy is focused on building flexible storage assets to support renewable energy. James Mills, Director of Varco Energy, stated, “Battery energy storage systems are critical infrastructure for balancing the intermittent nature of renewable energy generation and reducing the UK's dependence on fossil fuels. We are thrilled to collaborate with GE Vernova on the 47.5MW, two-hour duration Sambar Power project. At Varco, we are dedicated to investing in assets that accelerate renewable integration, maintain a resilient grid, and deliver consumer value in the UK.”
This is Varco's second project with GE Vernova and its third overall, as the company continues to expand its portfolio of utility-scale BESS across the UK.
