Indonesian President Jokowi joins forces with British Prime Minister Tony Blair to promote renewables


President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomed former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, focusing on strategic initiatives for renewable energy and digital transformation in Indonesia.


During the meeting, Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia disclosed plans for a solar panel facility in Nusantara Capital (IKN), in partnership with the United Arab Emirates, facilitated by Tony Blair.


Discussions also centered on utilizing carbon storage to enhance national income streams, with 70% allocated for domestic use and 30% for international storage.


Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reforms (PANRB) Abdullah Azwar Anas highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to digital transformation, collaborating with the Tony Blair Institute to expedite bureaucratic efficiency through digitalization.

President Jokowi’s directive includes integrating digital services via a national portal to streamline access to government services, aiming to simplify processes amid the proliferation of applications.
