Keppel Infrastructure Division has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei International to co-develop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage system (BESS) technologies for interconnected power grids in Southeast Asia.
The partnership, inked on May 13, will also explore low-carbon energy solutions for data centres, industrial parks, and digital energy management systems for hybrid energy setups.
According to a joint statement, the collaboration aims to lower carbon intensity, enhance operational reliability, and optimise lifecycle costs of infrastructure projects in the region.
Once operational, these projects will be connected to Keppel’s Operations Nerve Centre in Changi for real-time monitoring and performance optimisation.
Both companies are also working on a demand response programme using a BESS facility at Keppel’s Changi premises, supporting better power demand-supply balancing.
“Energy storage is essential to overcome the intermittency of renewable sources like solar,” said Ms Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure Division, adding that the partnership will help enhance the efficiency and reliability of renewable assets across Southeast Asia.
